In this talk we present the details of a multicore real-time kernel based on the OSEK/VDX specifications, and the accompanying RT-Druid toolset that enable applications to easily exploit multicore architectures and to achieve the desired performance without modifying the application software.

Topics of the presentation include the ERIKA Enterprise programming paradigm, the partitioning of the computational activities (tasks) among processors, multicore communication and synchronization, and the possibility to seamlessly migrate applications from a single core to multicore without changing the application source code.

The design and configuration of multicore software will also be discussed. In particular, the RT-Druid configuration tool will be presented: based on the Eclipse Framework, RT-Druid hides the complexity of the RTOS configuration, automatically generating multicore configurations based on a simple OIL configuration language. To help users in the partitioning job, RT-Druid implements an optimization procedure based on schedule-ability analysis techniques for assigning tasks to processors and for assigning scheduling parameters, to minimize the overall stack size.
