Pontedera – October 2006 Evidence will participate at the next IST Event, Helsinki 21-23 November 2006. IST is the most important European event in the field of Information Society Technologies. This year's edition of IST will coincide with the launch of the EU's Seventh Framework Programme for Research and Development. IST 2006 includes a high-level conference, an Exhibition of cutting edge research results from across Europe and a programme of networking sessions and workshops. Wednesday, November 22 Room Tampere “Theory and Tools for an integrated design of embedded systems” Speaker: Paolo Gai Session 8B Start time: 4:00 p.m. - End time: 5:30 p.m. "Embedded Systems Design - Networked Embedded and Control Systems" Abstract of the talk: The implementation of the classical V-cycle methodology for the design of embedded systems imposes a set of steps, from a functional specification down to the implementation at the RTOS programming level. The validation of the design is a complex task that consists of verifying, analyzing and testing both functional and non-functional requirements. In particular, there is need for the development of common system-level theories and methodologies which will be able to address the complexity of the deployment of future embedded system (consisting in integrated multi-level networks of single and multicore devices), as well as an integration of the current embedded design tools which should address the different steps of the V-cycle in an integrated way proposing a common open interchangeable framework. A first step towards the implementation of such framework can be considered the INTEREST FP6 project, composed only by SMEs, which aims at overcoming the current lack of integration and interoperability of tools for developing Embedded Systems software. The FP7 will be an opportunity to push forward this effort for the implementation of a theoretical basis and open frameworks for the development of future embedded systems.
