The control of a Furuta Pendulum is a challenging task. More so if you try to transmit data among the sensors, the actuator and the controlling computer using Ethernet, which is a data-oriented network (i.e. it has not been designed for control purposes).
Huge efforts have been devoted to research on the topic of control over network. At the research center Centro “E. Piaggio” http://www.centropiaggio.unipi.it the Flex Board is the platform of choice for rapidly developing network control nodes aimed at experimenting with their approach for control over network.
